With first-hand experience of the wind industry, we have created the tools we would have liked to have had at our disposal when we were facing the same challenges as you during the different stages of the wind farm development process.
Vortex portfolio is organized in Mesoscale (complementary to measurements) and Microscale (alternative to measurements) products, sold separately as increasing levels of modeling detail are needed.
Access to Vortex products is extremely easy. All them are available on-line.
As the graph below shows, wind farm development is a long, hard and challenging task. At each stage of the process, various decisions have to be taken using the best available information. Vortex products aim to provide some of this information, packaged in a useful, cost-effective format.
At the very early stages of development, a rough wind resource MAP may be enough to orientate prospecting. We provide them in two different resolutions of 3 and 1km. In addition to our MAP portfolio, Vortex INTERFACE includes our lowest resolution map (9km-grid onshore), and at a very attractive price: it’s free!
At the start of prospection, the probability of success is low and, therefore it is advisable to decide carefully where to spend the large amount of money required, for example, to install a meteorological mast.
Vortex MAST has been designed to help you take such a decision. For a small fraction of the price of a real mast, our MAST will give you a fairly accurate clue as to which may be the best of several candidate sites.
Subsequently, while actual measurements are being collected, Vortex FARM can be used to facilitate the wind farm design process by providing a long-term (30 years), high resolution (100m) wind field grid that includes mean wind, extremes (Vref) and turbulence. FARM is also useful during the installation process thanks to its climate analysis, indicating the best time of the day and season of the year for construction work.
Finally, once you have enough measurements, you can MCP them with our long-term, fine mesoscale (3km) reference SERIES.
